We mourn the death of our beloved former school principal, Maam Grace "Ging" Crispo. She efficiently served as Principal of JPENHS from September 27, 1990 up to October 31, 2003 when she retired at the age of 65.

Our sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Maam Ging.

We say thank you and goodbye to our dearest Maam Ging, a dedicated educator, a loving mother to 3 Crispo children and thousands of graduates of our dear alma mater.

Interment will be today, Saturday, June 25, 2011. Maam Ging's body will be brought to the Tandag Cathedral at 1pm. Necrological Services will be at our school's covered court by 2pm. Maam Ging will be laid to rest at the Tandag Memorial Park, Brgy Rosario.

Join us today... let's pray for the eternal repose of the soul of Maam Ging.

Imagine life as a game in which you are juggling some five balls in the air. You name them - work, family, health, friends and spirit and you're keeping all of these in the air. You will soon understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. But the other four balls - family, health, friends and spirit - are made of glass.

If you drop one of these, they will be irrevocably scuffed, marked, nicked, damaged or even shattered. They will never be

the same. You must understand that and strive for balance in your life.

How? Don't undermine your worth by comparing yourself with others. It is because we are different that each of us is special. Don't set your goals by what other people deem important. Only you know what is best for you. Don't take for granted the things closest to your heart. Cling to them as they would your life, for without them, life is meaningless. Don't let your life slip through your fingers by living in the past or for the future. By living your life one day at a time, you live ALL the days of your life.

Don't give up when you still have something to give. Nothing is really over until the moment you stop trying. Don't be afraid to admit that you are less than perfect. It is this fragile thread that binds us to each together.

Don't be afraid to encounter risks. It is by taking chances that we learn how to be brave. Don't shut love out of your life by saying it's impossible to find time. The quickest way to receive love is to give; the fastest way to lose love is to hold it too tightly; and the best way to keep love is to give it wings.

Don't run through life so fast that you forget not only where you've been, but also where you are going. Don't forget, a person's greatest emotional need is to feel appreciated.
Don't be afraid to learn. Knowledge is weightless, a treasure you can always carry easily.
Don't use time or words carelessly. Neither can be retrieved. Life is not a race, but a journey to be savoured each step of the way. Yesterday is History, Tomorrow is a Mystery and Today is a gift: that's why we call it The Present.

WHY WE NEED GOD by Zaldy Alima

When we first come into this world, we are extremely dependent on others. We need parents or other providers to feed and clean up after ourselves. Even as small children, we sense our need for parental care and protection. As we get older, it is common to believe that we no longer need anyone or anything. Starting in adolescence, where many think they no longer need their parents. Often continuing throughout adulthood, where many think they can take care of themselves.

Mankind is not as self-sufficient as many would like to believe. We are extremely dependent on many things despite our denials.

Assuming

that one believes in God, let's begin with three simple yet significant reasons why we need God in our lives. Starting with the fact that HE IS OUR CREATOR. GOD IS THE CREATOR of the heavens and the earth, of mankind, both male and female. Even in the womb, God has a role in giving us life. He made us, not we ourselves. GOD AS OUR CREATOR knows us better than we know ourselves.

Even as the manufacturer knows his product better than anyone else, God knows our weaknesses and our strengths. He is the best source to find the answers to such questions as Where did I come

from? Why am I here? Where am I going? How should I live?

We need God because as our Creator He is the only reliable "tech support" to help us make sense and use of our lives! Another reason we need God is because HE IS OUR REDEEMER. GOD IS THE REDEEMER. Unfortunately, all have made a mess of their lives. Some more than others, but all are in need of major correction. But God offers Himself as our Redeemer. GOD AS OUR REDEEMER makes it possible for us to start anew. This He did by sending His Son, Jesus. He offered His Son's blood to redeem from our sins. We need God because as our Redeemer we have the opportunity to be forgiven of sins and to start our lives anew! A third reason we need God is because HE IS OUR PROVIDER. GOD IS THE PROVIDER of physical life itself which sustains our physical life and our spiritual strength that we need. GOD AS OUR PROVIDER has promised to meet our physical needs. If we will put Him and His righteousness first in our lives, he has promised to meet our spiritual need if we will put on His armor.

More things could be said to illustrate our need for God, but for now let these suffice. God is our Creator, God is our Redeemer. God is our Provider. Those who reject any need for God go through life with no true knowledge of self or purpose in life have no way to atone for or to truly correct the many mistakes they make, have their lives devoid of the fullness of God's providential care. How much better to confess our need for God, and look to Him for wisdom and guidance in making the best of our time here on earth, for forgiveness and renewal when we mess up our lives through sin, for providential care and spiritual strength to live the truly "abundant life". Yes, dear friends and brethren that is why we need God!

THE STUDENTS PEER ASSISTANCE CLUB

Every school year, the Guidance In-Charge continually mediates among students brought by teachers from different year levels with problems varying from cutting classes, non-attendance, computer games addiction, gambling, vandalism, intoxicant drinking sessions within or near the campus, stealing, minor disputes and violent fist fighting, early intimate relationships and other disruptive behaviors that affect their academic performances.

During the previous school year 2009-2010, we have three thousand four hundred eighty six (3,486) enrollees in Jacinto P. Elpa National High School. The Guidance In-Charge as always, had done all that he can to be efficient in the job entrusted to him but their were times when the load of work is heavier than what his shoulders could carry. This is because of the imbalance between the number of his clients and his own limited capabilities.

For this reason, in coordination with the supportive and efficient leadership of the Principal, Madam Imelda C. Falcon, the Guidance In-Charge has organized the SPAC or STUDENTS PEER ASSISTANCE CLUB. The orientation and seminar lasted for 1 week, i.e., from May 17 to 21, 2010. The members of this club are selected students from the LRC and RBEC.

The SPAC members will help the Guidance In-Charge in the following activities:

1. Talented SPAC members in public speaking and trained further to conduct an anti-vices symposium will be giving lectures from one batch of enlisted students to another. During the enrollment period starting this school year, students with low grades if not failed ones from first year level to the fourth year level will be listed by the assigned teachers. Later on a schedule will be set for them to attend the aforementioned symposium.

2. Talented SPAC members in painting will be executing anti vices mural paintings.

3. Computer literate PGC members will be assigned as administrators, i.e., updating the elpahigh website and elpahigh facebook account.

4. Talented SPAC members in writing will be writing educational and inspiring articles. These will be posted in our ELPA HIGH Website, Facebook account and the Guidance Office Bulletin Board.

5. All SPAC members have undergone a Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD) training. CISD is the method used by professional Guidance Counselors and psychologists in conducting psychosocial intervention. The same method will be used by SPAC members every time a student is referred by a teacher to the guidance office for committing a minor offense. The concerned student will undergo a stress debriefing session to be facilitated by an assigned SPAC member. All members of this club are expected to cooperate on all Catholic activities in school, e.g., they will serve as choir during the JPENHS monthly mass.

PHILOSOPHY OF CISD or simply STRESS DEBRIEFING: Openness brings awareness. Awareness brings realization. Realization causes an awakening. Awakening brings us to an enlightened state. In the Light, you will find your truth....and finally you will be empowered to change the things you need to change and accept the things you cannot change.

After an exhausting hospital rounds at St. Luke’s Medical Center, I decided to take a leave from my position as the medical center chief. I wanted to take some well-earned rest thus leaving myriad of clients from my clinic and in the hospital alike.

For many years now, I have always wanted to write a story on the whereabouts of JPENHS Batch 2010 and I finally found the right time.

I took a plane and began my journey back to the school where I graduated from 20 years ago. Before boarding the plane to Tandag City, I noticed a familiar looking guy approach me. I could not believe that it was JOHN JERRY PACHECO. He told me that he works as the manager of Novo Jeans and Shirts Basketball Team (Novo is now a multinational company in RP).

My scheduled flight was ten minutes behind schedule, so I bought the latest issue of the Phil. Daily Inquirer, wanting to read the article of my favorite editor, TONICHI TATARO. I scanned the pages and a beautiful picture caught my eye with the caption: NICOLLETE SABLAON, career woman of the year. She looked as beautiful as she was 20 years ago. After several inquiries from the management, the plane was now ready to take off. I sat on 12B, near the aisle, and decided to take a nap. Before I could even close my eyes, a stewardess tapped may arm. It was MARY GLORYFEL GUDA. She told me that MA. DONNICA SINGAYAN, PRINCESS DIANE CALAMBA and KAYE PAQUEO were international flight attendants of Cathay Pacific. From her I gathered that the pilot of the plane was Capt. GLEE SAN URBIZTONDO. Suddenly, I heard the captain speaking. Because of some engine trouble we were to make an emergency landing in Cebu.

We were billeted at Crown Regency, now owned by the successful team of AISAIA JAY TORAL, a world class chemical engineer, MICKMARS SILVANO, a successful lawyer, and the millionaire LEE JOSEPH MONTILLA who won the jackpot prize in lotto ten years ago. From them, I learned that businessmen MUFFYLAN FERNANDEZ and ED CHARLES PASIA visit the place frequently.

Cebu is a busy place even at night. I dropped by a night place only to find out that the band playing was composed mostly of former schoolmates: JONEL SARMIENTO on drums; BART AWA on guitar and DANIEL DURANO and sweetheart MILCAH PEREZ, the lead singers. It was nice to listen to them this time. They were no longer playing loud music. And I guess it’s really true that people mellow down as they mature. The owner of the place, Chef SHARMAINE GELVOSA was mingling with fellow entrepreneurs: JESSA VARGAS, MARALIE ROJO, JESSA CALO and JEMIMA OHAO.

In another table, fashion designers LEONA GARCIA, DWIGHT MARATAS, BERNARDO JIMENEZ, and MARK ARLALEJO were discussing the new set of wardrobe launched by HENZ ANTOINETTE who is now based in Paris.

The following day we were ready to fly for Tandag City. Thank God we had a nice flight!

After a few hours of rest, I decided to go to Elpa High, for the first time after graduation. I was terribly shocked to see pregnant Ms. Tac-an, to my surprise, looking young as ever. My goodness! This teacher never grows old. From them, I learned that I was in time for our class reunion at the plush Shacene Intercontinental Hotel to formally organize a foundation. On my way to the Hotel, I spotted a billboard sign: CALIHAT FURY MOTORS: “Always on the Go”. Then I remembered IAN CALIHAT, my schoolmate and thought he might be the owner.

Suddenly two speeding cars caught my attention. In its sides was the label, “K tering Services”. That must be from our caterer CARYL TERING. Before I could say anything, PAMELA SUAZO’S service mobile car and ELEAZAR AGUDO Food on Wheels came rushing by. Food, food, and more food… I was then reminded of a dietary column of Asia week columnist MARY JOY GALOLO. Food really moves people from all walks of life.

Then I heard a thumping noise. Flat tire! I had to stop at the nearest servicing station. JUSTIN GAMULO, the owner, assured me that the repair won’t take long. I was quite patient in waiting but then I saw IVY PAN, the regional accountant of the Dept. of Tourism, boarding her car. I rushed to her and hitched

a ride; she told me that STEPHANIE QUEZADA has been transferred from Manila to Butuan as the chief accountant of the BIR Regional office. She will be married to a private pilot from Calcutta, India.

As we drove through Navales Street, a three-story building loomed into view. It was an Eye Hospital. On close view, I saw CLARETH LAURON the optometrist and owner on the doorway, welcoming some eye specialists ALYANNA BALO, CYRUS SUZO and ALVIN GOPITA. They just left the 2nd branch office of The GENERICS Pharmacy.

At last we reached the hotel. As we entered we saw some friends grouped together in the parking lot – medical technologists JESSCA ARIATE, KATHLEEN QUIMPO, and JESSA TALISAYSAY talking about their recent trips to the U.S.A. About to join them, were JARRED LUMAPAY and ANA LOU AQUINO, the lady dentists of Tago.

I was startled by the voices over the microphone: Paging Lt. Col. and Mr. JOEY CRAVAJAL. Please proceed to the registration office where Majors EARL JOHN GUYANO, VLADIMIR ARADILLOS and JOEPER SERRANO are waiting for you. Though I wasn’t needed, I too rushed to see my former schoolmates.

As we were trying to organize ourselves, FLORDELIZA TORRICO barged through the door and came towards us. She just had a conversation with Famas Best Actress Awardee FLORDIMAE DAGAANG who was busy shooting an indie film with upcoming star, JEKING CUANAN. The movie was being directed by SIONY GRACE REYNA and CELESTE AGRAVIO, she said.

Five minutes later, doctors CORALENE SILVERIO and JEFF LUMANCAS asked us to go inside the conference room. Computer engineers BRITT HINLOG, DEXTER LAVILLA, and RODFORD NOGUERRA joined us along the way.

Entrepreneurs MARY GRACE SANTOS, ABIGAIL PATAN, and SHERYL SITOY were accepting donations for annual community outreach program: 10 trays of bangus from the farm of CHERRYBEN OLAYAN; 30 kilos of fresh blue marlins from MARICEL DAUT . MARK ELLAZO brought bushels of fruit from his company; and NIKO EÑANO sent export quality pastries.

Also, JOHN MARK HAGANAS provided the utensils from their house ware sales centers.

A tenor-like voice broke through the din. Without looking, I knew it was BAYANG, founder of the flying doctors. He came to recruit more doctors and nurses to reach out to the far-flung islands of the Philippines. ISA PAEADELA, VON CLAR and DAN ABRAHAM GALOS were planning to join.

Finally, computer engineers, Abegail Joy Patan and Diana Mae Tanawan called everyone to settle down. But before they could, the super slim models, PRECY CLAIRE CORDENILLO, MARICAR MORANG, and CHERRYNETH OHAO entered with their escorts PBA shots, CYRIL FERNANDEZ, REYMART CATILLO, and MARK AZARCON. Their presence brought the house down.

The Holy Eucharist was about to begin. Fr. KEVIN CLINT PENALES, fresh from Rome was about to celebrate the mass. Helping him was Sr. MICHAEL ALIGUAY, O.S.B. The choir was organized by NIKKA MORSE, the catechetical director and wife of Mayor JUAN MAQUILING.

The organizational session began. RUTH RACHO, the Philippine Biochem representative to the GLOBE program, facilitated the meeting. The agenda included the background study of the proposed projects. The main project was to uplift the living conditions of the people especially the squatters. In our outreach areas, ETHYL BUDJIONGAN of BIR, JHOLIBAR VALLAR of DepEd, and CATHERINE AMPER of DSWD cited the conditions in Barangays Bongtud, Dagocdoc, Dawis, Maitom and Matikdum. Current projects in the area included road maintenance by Engr. DONNALD BONIAO’S construction companies. RESAN PAUSAL is sponsoring free vocational classes there. NACEL ANN LEAH LINDY STAR TORRED, Philippine Ambassador to France will talk with local and national officials for possible assistance.

The bulk of the funds needed shall come from solicitations and from DOYEN CASTAÑOS, Pres. of SDS-wide exporters, and sole banker WARREN LOZADA who pledged to give a percentage of his income to the foundation. Accountants GLENDEL SAPONG, JOVELYN SUMAGANG, SHEMA GAURANO and JENNYLOU SU with economist JENNIFER ESTAL will handle the finance.

We were given a free afternoon to explore the city and trace long lost friends and relatives.

I hurriedly hailed a taxi to take me to the newest mall in the city.

When I entered the department store, I bumped into two familiar figures, my two stepmothers! Ma’am Millan and Ma’am Irong with their grandchildren in tow. I invited them for lunch and from them I gathered several information.

• JOHN VINCENT PIMENTEL was running for Mayor of Tandag for the third time. He lost in the first two and is hoping to win this time. That’s a case of try and try until you succeed.

• Doctors EMMANUEL UMALI and SHEILA MAE SAMUYA are getting married after 9 years of engagement.

• The House of Laughter of JOHNNY DIAMOLA and MIKE SILVOSA became a success especially with the help of the no. 1 stand-up comic IONA AZRACON.

• Computer engineer PATRICK CUARTERO is currently in Japan with his computer innovations.

• ALDREN SELADES, now married, with eight kids, was being groomed by Cardinal Rosales to be the next Sec. of Health. He is the true example of pro-life. Well, well, well…

• DEMIE DEGUITO retired from dancing pursue his Law Studies in Harvard University. Maj. JOHN PEREZ of the Phil. Navy promises to help him in his future cases.

• JAY PAZO has become a monk. Knowing Jay, I really find it hard to believe.

• Choreographers SHERWIN ALIMOREN and ANGELINO GRACIA were doing a world tour with their ballet performance.

We bade each other goodbye hoping to see each other again.

I went back to the hotel to take a much needed rest. While in the confines of my hotel room, the telephone rang. It was balikbayan nurse LOVELY MEDRANO. She, along with several other nurses, BRYAN JUADIONG, CRISSA LEONAR and MARGILYN LAVILLA were waiting for me at the lobby. We exchanged pleasantries and decided to go swimming at a nearby resort owned by MAY MANGATA and fiancé NEIL ALVIN GINGANE. Exhausted, I went back to the hotel praying that no one will bother me.

It was almost time for dinner when I heard a knock at the door. It was Supreme Court lawyer Atty. JESSA CALO. She was in Tandag for several court sessions and meetings with co-lawyers JEMIMA OHAO , SHERYL SITOY , ETHYL MAE SANGCO, VAUGN CLAR , and DEXTER SALCEDO.

The organizational meeting resumed the following day. The second project discussed was all about health and nutrition. Drs. JESSCA ARIATE and ROSEFEL-AM ROJO shall conduct free consultations and visitations at the adopted communities every now and then. Biologist SARRAH MAE PEDROSA shall check sanitation while Chem. Engineers GRACESHA MEL GULTIANO and LEA MARIE LOAYON shall see to it that proper medicines are given.

The third project is on the upgrading of the quality of education analysts EDELSON LINDO, ALVIN BERMILLO, and MARK WILSON DETECIO will make the curriculum designs; while MARICEL ARREZA and REY JEDDLEDON OLACO will comprise the teaching force.

The meeting ended smoothly. No untoward incident happened, thanks to Capt. MICHAEL TAYER, and policewomen CHRISTINE CABAÑA, Tayer’s fiancé and SHARMINE NOGAN of the PNP, and Air force 1st Lt. ARNCEL CALIHAT and Navy Ensign JECKER RABAGO. Immediately after the meeting, minutes were distributed by computer scientists JORES EROJO and JINKY ABARICO . An article on the ongoing projects will be written by Newsweek correspondent JESON QUINONEZ JR .

At dusk, the closing program was held with Diplomats VIVEKA CAYABYAB, JAYLANES OTAGAN, and CHERRY MAE LUMANTA as emcees. Scientist AIKO DOLORICON read an open letter to her former classmates. Ambassador HOMERO EARL ELPA presented the donation to the JPENHS Community who was invited to the program.

20 computers and printers; 10 volumes of science encyclopedias, science laboratory equipments, curtains for the AVR, sound system, aircon unit for the AVR, and two more overhead projectors. These have been the homecoming project of Batch 95.

Due to popular demand, JUNICHOL LASTIMADO, now an international singer rendered a song. Her voice was a voice to reckon with.

Commercial model IRENE PANES was in Paris for pictorial; Chemical engineer MARY ROSE JOSOL is currently working with JADHIEL PITCHAN at NASA on a project for the next space trip of Discovery to the planet Pluto.

Tago Mayor BASILIO ESPINOZA was busy campaigning for the forthcoming election; Tennis 3rd seeded CEASARILIE SILVOZA was having rigid practices in preparation for the Wimbledon championships, and ping pong superstar RIOHI ANGELES was in China for the World Championship.

I really missed some of my former batches but I didn’t know how to get in touch with them.

I hope the JPENHS community will be happy for us. This story is humbly dedicated to them.

When I woke up, I looked for the story, only to realize that everything was just a dream.

PORN WATCHING IS UNHEALTHY

With the number of persons diagnosed with HIV in the country continuing to mount, we asked some Elpanians if they personally know someone hooked to porn. Their answers may surprise you as they spill everything---from the ill effects to how it can lead to bridges being burned.

Yes I do. He always talks about porn and I think that’s the reason why he flunked during his third year. – Priestly*

Some teenagers especially boys are very up-to-date about porn through the internet and because of this; the change in their behavior has a dramatic transition. – Eggnog*

He’s one of my classmates and he always talks about porn openly and he keeps egging us to watch it. – Adored*

I don’t know if it’s true or not. However from the way I’ve observed them, I think the issue can no longer be considered as fiction for they have stupid smiles on their faces when they see images of naked women. I also heard they watch porn videos at least once a week. – Sappy*

When I was in elementary my neighbor always skips classes to watch porn over the internet or pirated films. This activity kept on going until one day I was shocked to hear the news that she got pregnant. – Psyched*

A former classmate of mine was hooked to porn. Back in time, he often cuts classes to play computer games and watch porn in between. There was one time when he shared about porn animatedly, as if it’s the most ‘normal’ thing. Because of his habit, it affected his studies and personal relationships. – Modern Maria Clara*

I have a friend who grew up in the city and got obsessed with porn during his first year in high school. Since then, he became an addict and had lots of sex related objects inside his room. He even spent eight years in college because it affected his studies and got two college girls pregnant. Because he’s already a father of two, a baggage to his parents, and jobless, it’s undeniable his future is no longer bright. – Quiroga*

He’s my classmate and at the same time my cousin. Before, it was really obvious he was so into it for he can’t shut his mouth about this obscene thing. I felt extremely embarrassed by the way he teaches us his ‘discoveries’ of the day and the way he gazes stupidly to girls, particularly the sexy ones. Today though, he’s slowly overcoming his addiction and I’m glad he’s putting an end to it. – Martian*

A neighbor of mine had a habit of watching X-rated films consisting of naked women. He was a good farmer and we never knew about this until a news leaked in town about him raping a thirteen-year-old girl, sending him to jail. After receiving the consequence of his actions, he repented and when he was bailed out, promised to himself that he will never try to resurrect his old habit ever again. – MaKAYEta*

FAREWELL MA'AM ONDET . . .

The Jacinto P. Elpa Teachers and Staff bid farewell to Ma’am Lourdes “Ondet” Falcon Cesar who died of breast cancer on February 3, 2010. After nine days of prayer, grieving and commemorating the memories she left behind, her remains has been buried on February 11, 2010 in Tago, Surigao del Sur.

Ma’am Lourdes “Ondet” Falcon Cesar was born on February 11, 1957. She finished the Education Course major in Filipino at the University of The Visayas in Cebu City circa 1982. For 21 years she efficiently performed her job as a Filipino Teacher in Jacinto P. Elpa National High School, 2^nd year level. For a couple of years she likewise efficiently taught Values Education.

Someday, we hope to enjoy the vision of meditating the countenance of our Lord Jesus Christ together with all the saints, angels and with Ma’am Ondet in Heaven, Amen.

Zaldy Alima, a science teacher of Jacinto P. Elpa National High School bagged third place in the SIP Teachers Category in the National Level held in Tabaco City, Albay on February 3-5.

Zaldy Alima became part of the Elpa High Family in 2008 and won first place in both division and regional level of the SIP Teachers Category in the previous year. His study has aroused interest because of its rarity and amazing outcome.

The road to success was never easy on his part. Alima spent the last week of January roaming around Tandag to solicit from one politician to another for the fare of STEP national delegates of the school because of the lack of funds. He on the other hand paid his own fare. Moreover, tough times ensued during the duration of the Science Investigatory Project to facing the panel of judges, yet in the end it was all worth it.

At exactly 23 minutes past the time of 12 midnight while I wrote this, I came across a question posed by Meredith Wilson in one of her books. She wrote, ‘what is the good in goodbyes?’. Quite frankly my mind went blank. I hate saying goodbyes. It brings an unpleasant feeling, it is like cold water dumped when you’re asleep. But goodbyes are inevitable and I will choke it out a month from now in front of the whole senior class of Jacinto P. Elpa High School.

I can still recall the first day of class of June 2006. I was an incoming freshman, fueled with the excitement and at the same time nervousness in meeting new friends and embarking on a new journey that is high school. Most people say high school is the best stage from the three levels of education and I want to know if this is fact or fiction.

From freshmen all the way to senior year, I can conclude that high school can be your worst nightmare or the bet. It depends on you on how you make every moment worthwhile. As for me, I did just that and if twenty years later somebody will ask me how my high school days were, my answer will be, ‘it rocked!’ and this reply

will never change.

On March 2009, I told myself, “I can’t wait to become a senior and graduate”. Three months later, I want to take it back. I realized I’m not yet ready to throw that graduation cap in the air, have a graduation bash, and most of all, kiss Elpa High and the people who became part of my life goodbye. I tried to deny what reality has in store for me. At home when I’m cooped up in my room listening to music, I always skip songs that have been part of my high school journey. Songs like At the beginning, Turn back time, Whenever you remember, Friends forever, and a whole lot more.

I quickly press the skip button when those old familiar melodies drift. I don’t want to listen while I reminisce about the fond memories I had all the while knowing it has to end. In my senior year, I paid attention more to details of the school I call home, trying to incorporate in my mind the vandals in the chairs in the classroom, the color of the leaves that we sweep near the Tree park, the voices of the Coop help every time I eat recess, all these and more.

Why do I do this? Because I want to keep in mind what was it like being a student at Elpa High. Because I want to have a fresh and detailed view of my beloved school when I close my eyes tucked in the sheets of a college dorm. And because I’ll miss everything about it.

Moreover, I can’t utter the word goodbye to the friends I’ve made. To tell all of you honestly, I never imagined myself skipping classes to attend a town fiesta, saying ‘pa borrow notebook’ to cover the yearn to copy answers, and having out-of-this-world expressions like kauka and buffer. Indeed, friends bring out something in you that you never thought existed.

I will never forget the outings, the teasing, the laughter, the craziness in the class, the wacky and pa cute faces we make in pictures, the expressions we invented that can be made into a dictionary, the rows that only made our bond stronger, and the pacts that we send through SMS like, ‘woie, wara baya’y mag pass ha?’ and the consequence of getting ‘dogshowed’ when you break it. Guys, if I never knew each one of you, my high school life would be dull. If a certain ‘mentor imitator slash perfectionist’ didn’t come my way, I wouldn’t learn to appreciate the beauty of imperfections. If a squat tarsier-eyed guy didn’t come my way, I would never feel the joy and the pain of having a baby brother. If a Lady Gaga voice-alike gal and piggy guy didn’t come my way, I would never believe in true friendship.

This is the amazing gift of what high school offered me: Making me realize and learn things through persons I spend nine hours a day with. Another thing I’m thankful for having to meet the strangers who became my friends eventually is getting to share a lot of ‘firsts’ with them. I got to travel all the way to Davao with them, swim in the pool without permission from the facilitators with them, got to squeal and get teary-eyed over mushy flicks with them, have a slumber party with my BFFs, and most especially got to discover a funny and bold side of me with the influence of two presidents in respective organizations.

But it isn’t just my friends who I’ll be missing. I’ll also be missing terribly my mentors who ignited in me a passion in learning I never thought I had. I would like to mention a few who made tremendous impacts in my life. To Ma’am Isidro, Ma’am Javier, Ma’am Corro and Ma’am Anino for making me feel like their daughter through calling me ‘anak’; To Sir Tajonera and Ma’am Irong for teaching me how to report in class properly; To Ma’am Avila, Sir De la Cruz, and Ma’am Cosmiano for teaching me to embrace the beauty of numbers; To Sir Urbiztondo who never fails to commend me especially in front of my parents; To Ma’am Millan for letting me love places through their delicacies; To Sir Lozada for making me learn a new value every meeting; To Ma’am Orozco and Ma’am Lurenana for instilling in me the art of discipline. Thank you very much for the strictness for without it I would be another easy-go-lucky student of yours; and to Ma’am Obaob for helping me realize that adjusting to a new environment is a must. You must not act as if you’re a diva that needs to be accommodated. RSPC girls, you know what I mean.

And lastly I would be missing my schoolmates and the friends I’ve made from the younger batches. Thank you so much for the support especially during the story telling. I wouldn’t have the confidence to deliver my story without you cheering on me. To my friends from the younger batch, I really appreciate the way you call me ‘Ate Tonch’ or ‘Palakpakan’ and for letting me into your lives. Enjoy high school for you will never have the chance to repeat it, except of course if you fail.

Now I know why for months I’ve tried to keep my tears at bay, preventing the word ‘farewell’ from slipping from my lips and immersing myself in the past through browsing old photographs and videos. And the reason as Nicholas Sparks wrote is that, ‘it hurts so much to separate because our souls are connected’. It will take time for us to end one chapter of our life. The chapter brimming in both bliss and sorrow that is high school. We don’t know how to end it properly but we do know how the ending feels: a mix of sadness and yearning to press the repeat button one last time.

Going back to the question I popped at the start, I now grasped the good in goodbyes. In goodbyes you’ll appreciate the ones you love more, in goodbyes you’ll be able to recall little, wonderful things almost forgotten, and in goodbyes you will learn to love distance for it stretches the love you have in your heart to the persons you miss most.

Funny, I could not recall one of J.K. Rowling’s quotes from my favorite books be affecting me in such an emotional way except for this one: ‘It’s a strange thing, but when you are dreading something, and would give anything to slow down time, it has disobliging habit of speeding up’. Accurately correct, right?

To those who still have a hard time in bidding adieu, here’s something I would like to share to you penned by Tom Petty: ‘You and I will meet again when you’re least expecting it. One day in some far off place I will recognize your face. I won’t say goodbye my friends for you and I will meet again’.

When will we meet again? Here’s something from Shakespeare: ‘God knows when we shall meet again’.

To end this article of mine, let me have the honor in rephrasing that famous line from the Disney franchise, High School Musical 3: Senior Year: Once an Elpanian, Always an Elpanian. Thank you and may Bro bless us always.

When I was young, I once told myself: “The Earth is beautiful, the arching of clouds, the singing of birds, and the vibrant streaks of blue and green were like paintings in my eyes. And then comes man who ruined them all. Our land has been stripped of its own beauty. Man himself is like a beast who abuses his own kindred and flesh. What then, I asked, can I possibly do?”

We were created with moral standings and with great intellectual capacity. It just so happen that we are stormed with various temptations in life. Lust, envy, and greed are some of the “barriers” which kept us from attaining peace and unity. That’s why, we argue and fight from time to time. The Bible once described it as a sin, which manifests a beast with seven heads. What truly made it worse was the image of man who rode in its back. It only means one thing, the sad and painful truth that man had swayed to the will of his sins!

I know that it is wrong to be controlled by temptations and we should act now to change it. It may be hard but the change should come from us.

My mission in life is to spread goodwill towards mankind. And with the help of God, my family, and my friends, I’m pretty sure that I can do it. With the age of 16, surely there are some feats which I cannot attain. But, who said that kindness is restricted with age? Certainly, all things should start from humble beginnings. By helping each other, by participating in any government activities and by being a good example in our community would be a great idea. And as I get older, I would extend my arms to help the poor and the needy, the oppressed, and the victims of injustices. They too are human beings who need understanding. Furthermore, as a family man someday maybe, I would teach my own children become great and noble citizen, that their footsteps would be followed by their own children, and the people who believes in the same ideal.

Some people say that money makes the world go round. This false concept blinds many and pollutes their way of thinking. Kung nagigipit man sa pera, it shouldn’t be a reason to allow greed conquer our minds. The avarice within should not deprive our neighbors with the graces we receive.

I am a man who is delighted when I make others happy. Personal gain means nothing to me. I always remember that giving is better than receiving. I’d rather face the perils of hell rather than hurt other people’s feelings.

I once had a dream, I dreamed of spreading peace and happiness not only in my own country but to other distant places as well. I dreamed of seeing the sweetest of smiles, the joyous laughter of people wherein the essence of brotherhood is implied. Someday I want to become a politician. In this way, I have the power of being more efficient in helping others.

God will bless the righteous. He would shower him with blessings and would welcome him to the heavens above. And so, I would like to address this message to my readers. Please help me in fulfilling this dream, a dream to make this world a better place.

CHALLENGES IN LIFE IS BUT NORMAL (An Interview with Mrs. Francisquita J. Cosmiano

You may define her as a woman who is not afraid to face all sort of problems. In the workplace, she has been considered by her students as the Math goddess, one of a kind, the best, the best, and the best. She finds her teaching career right now as fine, compensating and fruitful. Compensating in a sense that you not only get good compliments from the people you’ve been with but also you bring out the best in them and that makes it fruitful.

Students: Ma’am may we kindly know the secrets of your being successful?

Mrs. Francisquita Cosmiano: Face all problems squarely with soft, understanding and rational heart. When we say rational, it means it’s a heart that sees reason on its own positive way.

Students: How do you find your teaching career ma’am?

Mrs. Francisquita Cosmiano: Fine, compensating and fruitful. Compensating means that you have done your best and you met the target. My efforts become fruitful when I developed the talents and skills of my students at their maximum. Once you receive words of gratitude from students, the teacher is already compensated.

Students: What are the challenges that you encountered before you achieved your goals?

Mrs. Francisquita Cosmiano: Everyday is not a challenge to me because problems in life is just normal. It’s hard yet I do not consider it as hard. I know how to take all my problems in just a cheerful way. Besides, I do not give weight on those problems because they are just easy for me for God is always with me. I never forget him in all walks of my life. Problems are challenges which God gave us to check how well we endure with all the trials He’s giving us here on Earth. I'm not that type of person who cries whenever I have problems because tears can never solve problems but the only thing who can solve problems is God. Everytime we have problems, always remember that God is always with us.

Students: May we kindly suggest ma’am, you share with us some of the saddest moment you encountered.

Mrs. Francisquita Cosmiano: That was in 1997 when four tragedies consecutively transpired in my life. My two children died simultaneously. One is only one week old and the other one is just one year and twelve days old who died on our wedding anniversary. That time I had hallucinations and those came true. My father's eventual death was part of those hallucinations. Another is when I became an OIC of the school in our place and I can say that its God’s will. But I don’t like to become an OIC, I just wanted to be a classroom teacher because I want to have a simple life, simple problem with simple solutions because I'm just a simple person. That’s congruency in life. October 13 that year, my husband was put into jail because of illegal possession of fire arms and that time its non-bailable. But when my son died on December 15, the next day, on December 16 the release papers for my husband came. During those days where I felt seemingly doomed, my tears never fell, I hold on to my principle “if I will cry, will those problems be solved? It’s a big no, so why cry, i told myself.” I faced them all and did something to solve them, one at a time. To sum it up, my life is like a beautiful novel.

Students: One last question ma’am, any message to couples and students that suffer and encounter problems in life.

Mrs. Francisquita Cosmiano: Do not take your problems seriously but offer them to God.

You are strictly adivised to be at the testing center at exactly 7:30 in the morning or earlier on the very day of the examination. The information required in the form must have been completely filled-in, and the required recent photo, pasted. Testing fee is Php. 350.00. Bring your School ID with your photo and your signature on it, for identification. NO ID NO EXAM. The examination will last for four (4) hours. OUR PRIDE AND UNSUNG HEROINE (An Interview With Mrs. Jeanette R. Isidro)

Having bagged the title as one of the ‘Outstanding Teachers in Caraga’, passing the Principal Examination, and a child who was able to study in the United States for a year and graduated valedictorian, Ma’am Jeanette Isidro still has her feet planted firmly on the ground and she has no hopes of neglecting the effect of gravitational force.

Students: How many years have you been in the teaching profession?

Mrs. Jeanette Isidro: 12 years to be exact. I became permanent in this profession in 1997.

Students: What’s your philosophy in education?

Mrs. Jeanette Isidro: My philosophy in education is based on the theme used during the teachers’ congress which is, “Teaching minds, touching hearts, transforming lives”. When I teach my students, I see to it that they learn not only the lessons but also the values. In my years of service, I can say I was able to shape the lives of my students especially when I was still handling students in the 4^th year and had an advisory class. Those students with whom I touched keep on coming to me and say “Ma’am, thank you very much for the lessons and for sharing to us your experience. You really inspire us in many ways.”

Students: How do you see yourself if you’re not a teacher?

Mrs. Jeanette Isidro: I would be an office girl. Back when I was a child, I always see my aunt going to places. I really love going anywhere, meet people and gain new friends.

Students: Why did you decide to become a teacher?

Mrs. Jeanette Isidro: Actually, I don’t want to be a teacher. It’s my mother who chose my profession. But then, when I started my teaching profession, I learned to love my work because I found out that I love teaching and helping children learn.

Students: What was your most successful achievement?

Mrs. Jeanette Isidro: Seeing them (my students) very successful in their chosen profession, I think, is already my greatest achievement.

Students: Do you have fears being a teacher?

Mrs. Jeanette Isidro: I don’t think so, but human as I am, there are instances wherein I have this fear in my mind - fear that I can’t met my students' expectations. But I’m trying my best to give all that I have to them.

Students: What makes you become an effective teacher?

Mrs. Jeanette Isidro: There are many factors to be considered. First, I am a committed teacher. I always leave the school beyond office hours as late as 7:00 P.M or even till 11:OO P.M. as the work demands for my time. Second, I give my all to my students. I also design trainings develop teacher support materials. I don’t only focus on teaching my students but I also share what I have to my co-teachers as well as train other teachers in the division.

Students: What is your greatest strength?

Mrs. Jeanette Isidro: Being an open-minded person is my strength. I am not what I am now if I’m not open-minded. There are lots of people who criticize me and give comments. And from these, it is where I am polished to a better individual.

Students: What’s your biggest weakness?

Mrs. Jeanette Isidro: My being emotional and besides, I'm not a risk taker. This is one of the reasons why I prefer to stay in JPENHS although there are many opportunities out there. Although I have already the chance to become a principal or a supervisor but I feel I can best serve the students if I'll stay in the classroom.

Students: How did teaching change your life?

Mrs. Jeanette Isidro: In some manner it did change my life. It made me a better and confident person. I was a shy person before and had stage fright. My training as PROBE In-Service Facilitator made me a stronger person. It opened many opportunities in my life.

Students: Ma’am, how did you obtain the award as an outstanding teacher in the entire CARAGA region for school year 2009-2010?

Mrs. Jeanette Isidro: All the nominees undergone a selection process. We submitted our pertinent papers to the Division office and had an interview with the panel. Perhaps, I met the qualification standards and because I was able to train teachers, publish articles, and develop teachers support materials, that is why I am chosen as one of the outstanding Master Teachers in the region.

Students: What were your first thoughts upon learning that you’re one of the awardees?

Mrs. Jeanette Isidro: God has been so good to me so I have to give more of what I have to people whom He entrusted to me like my students, co-teachers and my family. I was very happy and feel blessed when I learned about the matter.

Students: Teachers accordingly are modern-day heroes. May we know your opinion on this notion ma’am?

Mrs. Jeanette Isidro: Indeed we are. It is because when we teach, we give our life, we give our best to our students. We cannot turn our back to those learners who hunger for love and education.

Students: One last question Ma'am, any message for students, ma’am?

Mrs. Jeanette Isidro: They have to give their best for education, value education. There is really no other wealth we can acquire in our life, but education. They have to make the most of their being a student by studying hard and make their parents proud of them because not all are given the chance to be in school.

For school year 2009-2010, Mrs. Jeanette R. Isidro serves as an English teacher for 1st yr. LRC and 1st yr. and 4th yr. NIGHT students. One could never see her doing nothing because as a Master Teacher she carries out other tasks efficiently. She is also an English Coordinator, Faculty Development Center In-Charge and a Division Trainer. In spite of her hectic schedule, she remains unperturbed, calm and maintains a healthy relationship with her superiors, co-workers, students and the parents.

This interview with Ma’am Jeanette Isidro was conducted by the LRC Students Section Graham Bell, namely: Stephanie Quezada, Mary Rose Josol, Mick Mars Silvano, Jessca Ariate and Aisaia Jay Toral on December 14, 2009 in partial fulfillment of the 3^rd grading requirements in Val. THE PACQUIAO-COTTO FIGHT, LESSONS LEARNED

Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao has seven titles under his belt, a fat bank account, a rich career, and loving family. Indeed, he is the man of the hour.

We have to be thankful that God gave us a Manny Pacquiao to be proud of. I cannot help but remember my father who was also an avid fan of boxing. Unfortunately, since he has been reunited with his creator two decades ago, my father has not witnessed the kind of euphoric phenomenon we are enjoying now. According to the Top Rank Promoter Bob Arum, “Pacquiao is the greatest boxer I've ever seen, and I've seen them all, including Muhammad Ali, Hagler and Sugar Ray Leonard".

Why is this so? This is not because Manny Pacquiao is now the only fighter in boxing history who holds seven championship belts from the seven weight class divisions, but because he displays a rare brand of courage in fighting every time in the ring.

He bravely dealt with Cotto in a face to face engagement fight. He followed the game plan sketched by his coach Freddie Roach to demoralize the adversary early on by making the opponent feel the pressure and pain of power punches. Indeed it eventually paid off, proven to be a very efficient strategy.

In our lives, we need to have at least a parcel of Manny Pacquiao within because every now and then we have lots of Miguel Cotto, hiding now but will jump out of nowhere when we let our guard down. As students, problems primarily circle around assignments, exams, peer pressure and the like. These are your ‘Miguel Cottos’ in your lives as students. Just like the clever schemes of Manny Pacquiao in dealing with Miguel Cotto, the most efficient way in dealing with problems is face them head on.

When a subject teacher gives you a difficult or time consuming assignment, do not run away from it by procrastinating or by letting your pessimistic imagination rule over you. By running away from your school works, one is displaying an act of cowardice.

A fighter always wins and a coward who runs away from his obligations will always be defeated. Early in life as students, you need to form the habit of a fighter to be a winner. The sort of habit you mold within will determine the quality of life you will reap in the future.

Possess a parcel of Manny Pacquiao within you and you will be victorious in the arena of life!

My New Nest

It was mid-September in 2008 when the Schools Division Superintendent approved my request for re-assignment. Then I moved to a new school for greener pasture and to start again a new teaching journey. That school is Jacinto P. Elpa National High School (JPENHS). Upon seeing myself in JPENHS, I had a thought it would be a good new start.

My first two weeks of teaching in this school was a mixed feeling of excitement and amazement though that time I was still in an adjustment phase. I never realized it was a cultural shock in its gentler way. I was learning a lot from the ways and attitudes of the people around me, the crowd of students, the teachers and the administration and staff personnel. I easily got a long well with the people most specially in the third year campus where I was assigned, somehow because of my friendly nature. My colleagues are also very nice to me. This school is really big. It comprises of four big campuses from first year to fourth year levels with over 3800 students in population. Each campus is managed by year level chairman or chairwoman. The overall in charged of the entire academe is the School Principal.

JPENHS is a public school that offers four curriculums: namely Revitalized Basic Education Curriculum (RBEC) funded by SEDIP, Special Science Curriculum commonly known as LRC (Learning Resource Center), Technology Vocational Curriculum (Tech. Voc course) and Sports Program Curriculum (SPC). The school also offers night classes for working students.

The RBEC students are the typical group of high school students with general average IQ. The Tech.Voc students are technically empowered group of students whose curriculum is specially designed for them to acquire life skills such as food technology, computer technology, garments, cosmetics, entrepreneurship and electrical technology. The SPC students are trained for sports development. Most of these students won in the Palarong Pambansa (National Sports Competition). The LRC group, on the other hand, is composed of students with higher IQ. The LRC students are usually the ones who bested in almost all academic competitions in regional or national level.

On my first day of service, I was introduced to my new class of exclusively all boys from RBEC and TechVoc curriculum. The subject was Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) specializing Electrical Technology. It was a totally new experience because I had not taught all-male class before. The course is not a problem because of my intensive knowledge in Physics. To gain a holding power over them, I had to project a quite strict image for awhile because you know boys are naturally playful, hard-headed and difficult to manage. This way I could make an easier command. Of course I would establish friendship and a sense of openness with them. And as much as possible I would like to be kind and approachable to my students.

On the following weeks I got used to the way things are happening in the campus. I even got the idea of the norms of the campus and on how the students and teachers assess one another.

Three months rolled by, after two grading periods, I was given a new assignment in LRC. I taught Statistics. It was another experience for me. This group of student is really brilliant. The LRC curriculum has more academic subjects compare to the other curriculum. The LRC students have advanced Mathematics and that includes Statistics and Advanced Science. Since it is special science curriculum, the students are required to conduct scientific researches. Much is expected from this group of students. They are the future leaders of their community. If their needs are fully catered, no wonder these students would excel in any aspect of life.

Life can get monotonous so I rather choose to engage in a more adventurous journey. Part of that journey is my work as teacher here. My feet are firmly planted in teaching. I don’t know how long I am meant to be here. It might be until I become very old enough. It is here where I can pursue my own dreams, and where, against all expectations, I have made a life. I know there is something good waiting to surprise me. But I take great comfort in the thought that for all the bad things that happened, one day I will reap all the happiness. Though, it’s not easy to forget the hurtful moments. It is not a smoke being blown away by a gust of wind. Teaching has brought me a certain measure of stability in my life. I still want to learn more out of life.

My life with problematic students has its peaks and valley. It is very challenging but very rewarding and fulfilling most of the time. It requires a lot of love and patience. It needs a lot of grace. It also requires a lot of support from family, teachers and the school administration.

Teaching requires strategy, passion and team work, knowing when to be aggressive and when to take defense and looking at challenges as opportunities. This makes me rethink what I already know about the work I chose and move to review it.

Teaching with students is a lifelong journey of hope, faith and love. The journey for us is still long, with many rough roads ahead. But I will keep taking that journey with them with the hope of helping them enjoy, endure and conquer all that life brings. Thanks to those who share our roads.

This profession is like doing a lot of seed planting. Sometimes it looks as though none of these seeds are growing, but I should keep planting. When I look back, I know, I will see some trees. I just never know while planting which seeds God has chosen to grow into trees.

I'm (Just) a Teacher but I am Proud

I like the academic world. I like the questions that get asked and I really like the battle of the wits. Generally, the battles are about issues that I think matter. I’m not so naïve or so ignorant of the teaching side of the academia that I don’t realize that conflict can be petty, but I have found the structure and the goals of education would help keep the battle on point. Conflict happens everywhere and I want to fight about things that matter to me.

As I look back to a few years ago, I didn’t plan to be a teacher. “Me? Becoming a teacher? No way!” I heard myself said. I always wanted to be a doctor of medicine. It had been my cherished ambition. Four years rolled by, after high school, I couldn’t believe I found myself holding a chalk board, writing lesson plans and teaching students. I got fascinated in the classroom life. At first, it was difficult. For me to survive, I needed to think it over seriously. Is this really the profession I want to do for my life? There was conflict inside me. Later on, I comforted myself into thinking that it’s great to be a teacher even this would entail so much stress and pressure physically and emotionally. I become enthusiastic and my work keeps me busy and alert. My dealing with people has improved to a higher level. I learned to be nice, kind, friendly, gentle and generous. I never thought I would be this person. I used to be a shy person with no confidence in myself. Now I realize that it is important to socialize with people. I talk to my students everyday and speak to their parents during parent-teacher conference in school. I learned to solve bigger problems and manage my time and resources. I’m glad my students are close to me. They love to share their experiences and even like to open up their personal lives with me. My life seems to revolve around the school and my students.

The most difficult thing has been finding out that I’m not a perfect teacher. I wasn’t even a perfect student back in school days. But somehow, I expected teaching to be different. I introduced teaching innovations in my classes. Anything that comes in my mind I want to make it real for my students to experience it. Learning doesn’t only happen inside the classrooms so I device a teaching strategy which is outside the usual, something different. Learning, at this point, becomes concrete and fun for the students. Sad to say, for most people, anything new and different is not good. Usually it is treated with a cold shoulder. A change can be impossible if some of the school personnel and faculty are resistant for innovations. I was once bullied with raising eyebrows and brutal criticisms. But I remained calm because I knew I did my best for my students. It’s true that change doesn’t happen over night. In my years in teaching, though I still consider myself beginner, I can’t help not to magnify the little irregularities in the academe that I didn’t see before. When probe closely these ‘‘little irregularities” would trigger economic, social and morals upheavals. Conflict within the academe is inevitable. But as duly licensed professionals, we must see things objectively with no personal biases and must solve the problems right away. Teachers are expected to be duty-bound. I do my part well. I go to school everyday and make it a rule not to come late. I pay my taxes and other dues. I should avoid any form of corruption as much as possible in my work.

Teaching introduced me to a different pace of life. I’m going to work hard. Teaching allows me to use my intellect and originality. I know how important it is to treat people with kindness and respect especially when they are having difficulties or problems. I bring a fairly broad knowledge in education (I’m pursuing my post graduate program in Master of Science in Science Education). I think the most important contribution I can make is making a difference in someone’s life. Positive comments, showing trust in someone taking an action that communicates care and respect can positively change someone’s view of themselves and perhaps their lives as well. What would be more important? Teachers have both the power and opportunity to do great amount of good for many people. I know that I will take all the opportunities available to nurture, encourage and bring joy to those around me.

I think I have much to offer to the teaching field and teaching has much to offer me. To teaching, I will provide my knowledge, inventiveness, and dedication to students. In return, teaching will give me a space to grow intellectually and creatively and a group of people whose growth will provide me with a great sense of reward. I hope this would provide greater heights in my quest for excellence.

MOVE FORWARD AND NEVER QUIT!

Accordingly, “The illiterate of the 21st century are not those who cannot read and write, but those who doesn’t want to learn, unlearn, and relearn.”

Comparing your generation to the previous generations, education nowadays is more accessible than before. Even the handicapped people, an mga buta, bungol punkol ug uban pa dali da makabaton nan taas na edukasyon. This is because of the availability of new educational programs and technology.

The definition of illiterate nowadays does not refer anymore to those who cannot read or write but it refers to those students who may be physically present in school but mentally absent tungod kay amo ini sila an dili ganahan makakat-on o mga kabatan onan na walay motivation sa pag-eskuyla. These are the students who doesn’t want to learn, unlearn and relearn. Unlearn buot ipasabot, dili nila gusto ibalyo ang ingka andan na nila na paglulingyahayaw sa kon unoy madayaw. Ug relearn buot ipasabot walay interes na madugangan an ila mga kahibawo. This is because they are already comfortable with their ignorance.

It is alright to momentarily indulge yourselves on momentary pleasures so long as these pleasures are not hazardous in nature and will not jeopardize your future. Stay focused on what is essential! Today you may not have discovered yet your potentials but if you are determined enough coupled with an unwavering faith in God, someday you will be surprised to see yourselves as achievers in your own fields of expertise. Just move forward and never quit.

Talented students or typical ones, you are all equally important in this school. We hope to see you all as successful individuals someday, make your school proud of you…

WITH GREAT POWER COMES GREAT RESPONSIBILITY

Talented and honor students from LRC and RBEC are truly the pride of JPENHS. Congratulations to all of you. May you double your efforts in every grading period if not maintain the fervor in all your intellectual endeavors. Anyhow, as you become more popular in the campus still you should maintain being humble. Avoid looking down on your less intelligent classmates, thinking you are more important than others. In the educational arena, as students you are still on training. This is not real victory yet. Real victory in education is when you already finish a course and land on a decent job.

According to the DepEd survey, most successful individuals merely have an average I.Q.. Average people accordingly tend to be more successful in life than those individuals who were performing very well during their studies. Why is it so? Because these popular students did not only earn swelled grades but swelled heads as well. Yumayabang. They focus more on the importance of the honors that they may get out of their studies. They forget that the real essence of studying is to learn. Getting high grades is important but it is more significant to absorb, to live the lessons learned in each of your subjects particularly in your Values Education. Do not merely memorize but inculcate into your hearts the lessons learned from each of your subjects.

This is not to discourage you from getting exceptional scholastic performance. Congratulations indeed because you serve as an inspiration to others. To be successful, it requires that throughout your life you have to maintain not only the intellectual fervor but the equilibrium of humility that in the face of all humanity we are all equal. God may have endowed on you greater intellectual prowess compared to others but the purpose is not to elevate yourselves on the pedestal of egotistical high and become selfish and self-centered individuals. YOU ARE BLESSED BY GOD THAT YOU MAY BECOME A BLESSING AND BE OF SERVICE TO OTHERS.

As one of the nuggets of wisdom we can get from the movie Spiderman, it says, “WITH GREAT POWER COMES GREAT RESPONSIBILITY”.

This was not realized in the past because of the financial incapability of our school to maintain an official website, e.g., the expensive monthly maintenance and annual fees offered by website hosts and servers.

Because of this, we have decided to create a totally free of charge website via blogger rather than through the sophisticated and yet expensive website hosts and servers.

The objectives of our website are:

1. To serve as an official newsletter or bulletin in the internet for our teachers, staff, students, parents, stakeholders and the alumni.
